Every man wants to reap the maximum rewards from his shaving routine. That’s why it is so important to prevent rashes and skin irritations associated with wet shaving. Here are four more shaving mistakes to avoid for a smoother shave and better skin.
Too Much of a Good Thing
Some men shave too often, more than once per day, and some men shave their faces in every direction during one shaving routine. It is unnecessary, and undesirable, to shave excessively. Men should not shave up, down and across in a misguided attempt to hunt down every last hair. Redness and razor bumps are more likely results than an ultimate smooth shave. Yes, there really can be too much of a good thing.
Forgetting the Rinse Cycle
It may sound surprising, but some men complete their shaving routines by blotting their faces with a towel and running out the door. That is why men can sometimes be seen with drying blotches of shaving cream on their necks and around their ears. It is not a good look. A man needs to rinse his face thoroughly with warm water to remove all traces of shaving product. If he prefers, he can follow up with a splash of cold water to invigorate the senses and close the pores. Walking around covered in dried shaving cream is never acceptable.
Drying Off With Dirty Towels
One of the biggest mistakes a man can make is drying off his face with a dirty bathroom towel after shaving. Using the hand towel straight off the rack can invite bacteria to invade those little nicks and scrapes that often accompany shaving. There is no way of knowing whether the previous occupant in the bathroom used that towel to dry his hands, mop up spilled water on the floor or worse. The best way to prevent rashes or staph infections on a freshly shaven face is by using a freshly laundered towel. There are no exceptions.
Skipping the Skin Care
Rinsing and drying the skin after shaving is important, but it is not the end of the shaving cycle. Men should not skip the skin care routine after shaving. They need to carefully inspect the face for any cuts and apply a product like the Clubman Styptic Pencil or Clubman Dab-on Nick Relief to stop the bleeding. An after shave lotion or facial moisturizer should then be applied to protect the skin to keep it fresh, healthy and hydrated.
