Cyril R Salter French Vetiver Luxury Shaving Cream has a pungent, green scent with smoky notes and a rich finish. The French vetiver scent does prescribe an acquired taste and is not for everyone. If you enjoy the Islay Single Malt Scotches, this might be a fragrance for you. Densely textured and rich, this cream works up a lather in a snap and is the perfect weapon for a close, smooth shave.

Cyril R Salter is an established London family company specializing in the manufacture of wet-shaving products, and renowned for its uncompromising quality since its foundation in the 1940s.

When this first arrived I excitedly unwrapped it and took a sniff straight from the cup. My first thought was that it had gone off during shipping. This is a very complex scent and, thankfully, it settles down when it is whipped into a lather. I spent my first shave trying to figure out if I really liked it or not. I know this scent is labyrinthine and it is not for everyone but for me, there was something appealing enough about it to draw me back to it. Today I figured it out. In a evokes a memory of being at the old hunting camp with my father on a cold wet autumn day. The smell of freshly fallen leaves and wet moss that transitions to pipe smoke, fireplace ash and varnished pine logs. I can almost see my father sitting in front of that old woodstove with a fire poker in one hand. Like all Salter creams, it delivers a fabulous shave. This is a great cold weather scent and if you're up for it, I recommend giving this a try.

You have to know and appreciate the earthy, mossy tones of vetiver to understand how special this cream is. The undertones of tobacco and dark earth give incredible depth to this scent. Like other Cyril Salter creams, it provides a meringue-like lather that lubricates and protects from new and week-old blades alike. Layer on some Guerlain Eau de Vétiver after and you simply add to the complexity of this scent.

The vetiver scent is indeed a very special. And I have to admit, the description is perfect. If you enjoy a Lagavulin Single Malt, this is the scent you might have been looking for. The creme itself produces a rich lather and is good for a couple of passes. Shaving wise I'd still prefer Taylor's - the scent though is quite unique.
