100 Derby Double-Edge Safety Razor Blades

Derby's were the blades I started with a DE a few years ago. Paired with my Weishi (a nice mild starter razor which won't break your bank), they were very gentle and forgiving as I learned proper technique. I tried the three Derby types (horizontal, vertical and orange) and found no difference in the quality of my shave. For a few dollars more, I would recommend Astra instead but have no qualms about providing Derby with a big thumbs-up!

The clever Turks who make these blades have numbered the two sides so you can remember whether you have flipped the blade once already. I easily get a week out of each side which means, with 100 blades in the pack, 200 weeks shaving for $18.00 or 9 cents a week. That's value!

The Derby blades are a good, forgiving blade. They're definitely a two pass, with touch up, blade. But as I said, they're forgiving. You won't get razor burn with them. I'm a bit more partial to "feather" blades. These are so sharp that your beard scared is off your face by them. Two passes maximum. So sharp, you can't even feel if you've cut yourself. But... Alfred gave me a five pack of the Derby blades complimentary, with my order, so I gave them a try. And the price Alfred asks for them is great. Thanks Alfred Charles (Ted) Bastien

Derby Extra blades, I think, are about as good as it can get in providing a close shave in a DE razor while also providing just the right amount of safety in the product. Not near as sharp (nor consequently as tempermantal) as the notorious Feather blade. I place Derbys above most of the other mass-produced blades on the maket today including US Personnas, Gillette "Swedes" or Merkur. They work great in any DE razor, but are especially good in a vintage Gillette adjustable or SuperSpeed. Derby Extras are as good for the first-timer to DE shaving, as they are with the more experience crowd. You certainly can't be the price for a pack of 10.

Same as above. The once vaunted blades seem to have deteriorated in quality. Not sharp, lots of skipping and the little sharpness there is it goes away quickly. For almost the same price I'd rather use one the Israeli or Russian blades.

All reviews here are at least a year old; in the mean time, Derby has apparently changed their blade quality (now commonly referred to as "verticals" where the older, and much superior ones, were the "horizontal" ones _name due to the writing format on the containers_) and they're now receiving mixed reviews with shavers. Sadly, I find these newer ones harsh and that they can nick quite easily. I can only assume that it's because the company's manufacturing is possibly leaving burrs with the edge grinding. IMO, there are many other superior blades offered through Fendrihan's than to have to wrestle with potentially sub-par blades.
