This was suggested to me from Alfred, I cannot believe it costs $39.00.......... If Edwin Jagger is this good at this price range I cannot imagine what I will get over $60.......

Having shaved for 30 years with a cartridge style razor, I tried a "real" razor today. It gave me an incredibly close shave very similar to a barbershop shave. Everything about a double edge razor was new to me so I thank Alfred at Fendrihan for his advice. The razor glided across my face and, while I feared nicks, I did not get any. It is as if I finally have learned how to shave properly after all these years.

I just love the style of this razor, with the ivory (not real, though) handle. I bought it for this reason and hoped that it was up to the standards of the higher end Jagger razors. I wasn't disappointed. This is a classic Edwin Jagger product. It has a beautiful finish and top quality machining. Taking a first look at the razor, I thought this might be a tricky one to use. It is pretty aggressive; there is a good depth of edge exposed and the blade sits high off the guard. While this promises a close shave, it's also easier to get those annoying nicks and some burn now and again. However, it is a joy to use. It is unbelievably smooth, a nice weight and just glides along for a very close shave with no unpleasant surprises. My only caution is that the finish on the handle is smooth, so be careful if your hand is wet. This is a five star razor, no question.

I agree with the first reviewer in almost every respect; this is a fine instrument (as you would expect from Edwin Jagger) and does give a great shave. My complaint (and my reason for giving only a 4 star rating) is that the handle is too short (3.25") at least for me. For someone who has large hands this length creates a bit of a problem trying to find a good way to grip it. Every grip I have tried is awkward. Jagger's Chatsworth DE is much longer (5.5") but also much more expensive. I am not ready to invest that much . . . yet. So for now, I decided to buy a less expensive 4" Merkur Long Handle Classic. I hope the extra .75" length will do the trick for me.
