Product Description

The Merkur 38C, Barber-Pole Handle, Double-Edge Safety Razor is a classic piece of shaving equipment and is one of the best selling razors produced by Merkur. The razor itself is almost double the weight of the Merkur HD, making it ideal for those who prefer a hefty shaving instrument.

All standard double-edge blades are compatible with the 38C. The experience of our customers who are new to wet shaving is that purchasing a razor blade sampler alongside their first DE razor is the best way to figure out which blade brand is best suited to their skin type, style of shaving and razor type, before making a purchase of a large quantity of blades.

This is my first DE razor so have no similar product to compare it too. I switched from the Gillette fusion and am so happy that I did. Not only is the cost more affordable but the shaving experience is so much more enjoyable. I look forward to my daily shave.

This Merkur is my first safety razor apart from the cheap Gillette models you can get at any grocery store. My first shave I instantly found it to be worth every penny. The craftsmanship is top notch, comes apart easily for cleaning and has a great handle length which allows great control. Cannot recommend this enough!

Great razor. Just be careful to close firmly the knob (which I didn't pay attention the first time so after a while I cut myself because the blade became loose and very aggressive). After I did, it became nice and smooth. All my fault and not the razor's.

I love this razor! I had originally purchased the Weishi razor and commented that it was good for a beginner. Now that I have moved up to the Merkur 38C I am experiencing much closer shaves and this razor is better built and much more substantial feeling. I highly recommend.

I've waited a couple of months before reviewing this razor--my first DE safety razor. Initially I was disappointed with the results. I quickly realized however that this was due to my technique and inexperience, and not the razor itself. After a couple of weeks, and a lot of nicks, I was able to get the technique down. It is a very different experience than shaving with a disposable, and requires a little more care and concentration. Placing the blade in the razor makes you a little cautious at first, but once you become more confident and experienced you become more willing to apply the necessary pressure to receive the desired results. I could never go back to a disposable now. The 38C is a beautifully crafted piece of shaving kit with a good deal of weight to it. I've been using the 38C with a Kent shaving brush and different tubed shaving creams (Erasmus, Proraso, Omega, and Cremo) and getting very clean, close shaves. I still receive the odd nick but I figure that's the price one has to pay for this close of a shave. Thanks to Alfred for his advice on this purchase.

Great razor I purchased a weishi at first and was not getting a close shave. I do not think you need to buy a less aggresive razor to start, save the money and jump right into the good stuff. Just take your time and develope a good routine. Enjoy!

Fantastically excellent shave, very close shave and no burn or irritation for me, two passes and I had a baby but shave, the 38c is a real jem. Fit and finish is great.
