Product Description
The Merkur 38C Blue Handle Double-Edge Safety Razor. This classic shaver has a beautiful hefty handle - almost twice the weight of Merkurs HD razor.
Works well with all standard double edge blades, including Feather, Astra, Derby and Merkur. Many of our customers have found that purchasing a razor blade sampler with their first DE razor offers them the opportunity to find the suitable blade for their skin type, style of shaving and razor type, before making a purchase of a large quantity of blades.

Updated review: I originally reviewed this razor 9 months ago when I first got it. I've been using it continuously and have also used an Edwin Jagger DE89 since the. The 38c continues to be fantastic. It is definitely more aggressive than the DE89. The DE89 is too mild for me and doesn't get all the stubble in 3 passes, even with a brand new sharp blade. With the 38c you can really feel how much more of the blade is exposed (in a good way) but it's not so much that it's bad. That being said, blade choice is crucial. I was getting uncomfortable shaves with the 38c using Feather blades -- I would get cuts and irritation almost everytime. I adjusted my technique, lather, prep, and nothing worked. But when I tried different blades, that's when the 38c really began to shine. Combined with the Astra SS or Gillette 7oclock black, this razor is amazing. Very smooth and comfortable shaves every time. This experience has taught me that the razor's aggressiveness is an important parameter to its performance. But it's also something that varies with the person. Unfortunately the only to figure what's best for you is to try several razors or buy an adjustable. Either way, I highly recommend the 38c and you can't go wrong.

This is my first DE razor and it's very nice. It's quite heavy and does all the work for you. You don't need to apply any pressure. The handle-length is great, it's not too long. I have normal-sized hands and I don't have a problem. The size of the head seems average. I don't have a problem around the upper-lip/nose as long as I go slow. The blue handle is a matte/brushed finish and looks good. The grip is fine (I was worried the smooth handle might be slippery when wet, but it's not a problem). Overall construction is excellent and sturdy. I expect this to last for a long time. I gave it 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 simply because it's the only one I've used and I have nothing to compare it to.

A little heavier and longer then my last razor and it shaves great. It seems to encourage longer strokes because the blade just doesn't move inside the razor so it's all more secure. Great a razor and it looks great too.
