Simpsons
Alexander Simpson started making shaving brushes in the East End of London in 1919. He soon built up the business and in 1924, moved to Clapham where he established an award-winning reputation for his shaving brushes. In 1941, following the loss of his factory in the blitz, Mr Simpson moved his business to the West Country. Today the firm of A. Simpson & Co continues the tradition of making the world/s finest shaving brushes, entirely by hand, in a quiet rural backwater in Somerset, using techniques that have not changed since the firm was founded.
Each shaving brush handle continues to be individually turned on a lathe. The handles are polished and filled by hand with a knot of fine quality selected Chinese badger hair. The hair for each knot is sorted, weighed and tied by a skilled craftsman who then carefully cements the knot into the handle.
After the cement has cured the handles are given a final polish and stamped by hand using traditional lampblack. Finally the distinctive SIMPSONS seal is applied. Each brush is individually presented wrapped in tissue and comes in a stout cardboard box in Simpsons blue-grey livery. A leaflet on the care and use of the brush is enclosed.
Taylor of Old Bond Street
The TAYLOR Tradition was founded on September 1st, 1854 by Jeremiah Taylor, the great grandfather of today/s Chairman. He opened his Hairdressing and Hair Treatment Salon in Bond Street (in the heart of London/s fashionable West End) and gained a reputation in British Society for his botanical extract for hair and scalp treatment.
The Taylor Tradition has always been to manufacture products with as pure and natural ingredients as is practicable. We refuse to compromise quality under any circumstances. Our product range includes the luxurious and the unusual.
Valobra
It was almost a century ago that Virgilio Valobra established in Genoa his plant for the manufacture of soap. He was determined to adhere strictly to the formulas and methods of the master soap manufacturers of the 18th century. Those masters had made the Riviera between Portofino and Marseille a region renewed for the finest soap.
Valobra Methods:
Fine processing: To preserve the precious ingredients intact Valobra has always used the ancient and expensive "boiling for strength" method.
Seasoning: Special attention is given to seasoning, which takes at least six months. The soap thus becomes a highly refined and effective agent for gently cleansing the skin and improving its texture.
The purest ingredients: over the decades the old treasured formulas were improved upon. The exclusive use of pure and selected ingredients results in a substance similar to the natural one that protects the skin.
