Shapton
Shapton Stones are some of the most renowned and recognized sharpening stones in the world. Founded in Japan, Shapton has developed a complete range of sharpening equipment that is based on high standards of excellence and quality. Through years if in-depth research, Shapton has identified the three key elements of sharpening:
• Surface Uniformity,
• Abrasive Quality,
• Stone Stability.
Such in-depth research has also allowed Shapton to create sharpening stones for various types of steel.
The key element that distinguishes Shapton from the competition in the industry is their development of a complete sharpening system. This system addresses all the three integral qualities of sharpening. The various products manufactured and produced by Shapton meet each area of sharpening. The company has created Precision lapping systems to achieve surface uniformity. They have also developed holding systems that maintain stability of the abrasives. Finally, Shapton only produces the best-grade of abrasives that complete the system they developed.
The first step to using a Shapton Stone is to remove it from the box and placing it on a stone base. For this purpose, the top of the box or a separately purchased compact lapping base can be used. The printed side must be placed face down. Water must then be applied to the top of the stone before you begin sharpening. Also, water must be continuously applied throughout the sharpening process. It must be noted that consistency is the key element in the process.
Shapton Stones must not be left in water. Water is only necessary during the sharpening phase and not too much water should be used. To maintain the effectiveness of the Shapton Stone, all tools that are to be sharpened must be thoroughly cleaned to remove any oil. Oil will damage the Shapton Stone.
The quality and refinement of Shapton Stones is unparalleled. Every stone undergoes meticulous processing to ensure that only the finest sharpening stones are made to carry the Shapton name. The engineering and research that goes into every product assures every user that they are using the best sharpening stones available in today’s market.
