Product Description
This Limited Edition Thiers Issard 11/16" Grelot Crown Wing Straight Razor showcase a round-nosed, mirror-polished blade forged from the modern Carbonsong 135 steel, while honoring the techniques used for the incredibly popular, original Grelot razors. The wider blade provides this razor with an optimum balance of stability and maneuverability. The spine is adorned with a crown and fleur-de-lys motif set into a field of diamonds that hugs the round of the razor back.
The scales are of a rich, reddish brown, Cuban Mahogany. A historic wood, over 100 years old, that will develop a deeper patina with the passage of time. A laser-engraved ornament on the scales continues the regal theme.
The razor is set inside a handsome presentation box also made of historic Cuban Mahogany, displaying an inset, solid brass wing, bearing the Thiers Issard name and a fleur-de-lys.
The Grelot Crown Silver Wing is part of a limited edition of 350 straight razors, making it a collectable. Each blade and box are numbered.

This is a delightful razor to look at as well as to use. The spine details reminds me of a castle's arms (effigy). The spine engraved ornementations are a luxurious addition. Stropping with it, I do not see any issue with stropping paste ( If you put paste on the strop like butter on a toast then you are a beginner). My razor came and box were all nicely wrapped in some light white paper with the blade slightly coated with some oil to protect it from rust. It was sharp and immediately cut my arms hair by hovering over them. I have had 4 shaves with it without honing and being a singing blade it was a pleasure to use. The matching acajou wood box had a very nice grain pattern and closed perfectly. What I like the most is the sculpted handle and of course the blade has a serial number that matches the box. I also like the circular shape where you can place your thumb it increase the confidence and the precision. I am going to happily use it for years :) I would give it a 6 stars !

This is obviously an attractive razor. The spine detail is very nice, although it holds stropping paste (mine has a green CrOx stain). The mahogany scales are beautiful. The matching box is nice, although it does not close straight. The razor arrived with an edge so dull, that it could not even scrape off arm hair. I suspect the razor was not honed at the factory. I was able to set an arm hair cutting bevel with a 2k Shapton fairly quickly, but the bevel is very uneven as a result of a rather uneven grind. I was able to get a very sharp edge with my Coticule followed by CrOx on balsa and it does shave wonderfully. I think 3 stars is probably generous, but the razor fits my large hands so well and shaves so well, I can't go any lower. In fact, I like the razor well enough that I have ordered another TI Grelot, this time with an x-thick grind, but I do hope the quality is better on that one.
