Product Description

This Thiers Issard hardwood paddle strop has a frame construction that creates hollow chambers in its body. These add the flexibility necessary for a good stropping motion. The two different-color leather surfaces are perfect for use with two different grades of stropping paste. It comes in a superbly crafted, natural Baragnia leather carrying case, perfect for travel. Both the strop and the case are carefully handcrafted in France. Comfortable handle. Red mahogany finish.
Thiers Issard is one of the world's most distinguished manufacturers of straight razors. A family company established in 1884 by Pierre Thiers, it is also a preeminent producer of fine cutlery.

Perfect for traveling. The case has a slot for one straight to fit perfectly as well that isn't mentioned. As previously stated, this doubled sided paddle is perfect for two grades of paste, and indeed the soft leather side is gorgeous.

A gorgeous double sided strop (linen/leather), with very supple, soft leather. I find the linen side to be a bit too "bumpy", with not much draw and a moderately unsmooth glide as the blade is drawn across, but it is manageable and works well enough. The leather side is absolutely phenomenal. I wish all my leather strops felt like this. The biggest downside to this paddle strop is the size. You'll find yourself needing to do twice as many laps to get the same edge as you would on a hanging strop, but if you don't have the room for a hanging strop, this is a great strop. It's not well suited to beginners because of the small width. Because of the soft leather, I have found the leather side works really great for stropping pastes. Room for improvement, but in a small paddle strop you can't expect to get everything you're looking for. It gets the job done.
