  • Crafted using both time honoured hands-on methods and the best modern technologies, the Vie-Long 12750 Horse Hair Shaving Brush with Butterscotch Handle is striking, a nice contrast of unbleached dark hair and the bright and warm hued handle. Many wet shavers like the soft tips and strong backbone of horsehair, and this Spanish selection has a nice mix of 35 percent mane hair and 65 percent tail hair for both strength and softness. Made in Valencia, Spain, overlooking the deep blue Balearic Sea.

Vie Long has been creating fine brushes since 1940, earning the respect of wet shavers worldwide. Hand crafting combined with a judicious application of modern technology makes for handsome and durable shaving tools available online at Fendrihan, the traditional shaving store.

Vie-Long 12750 horse hair brush

This brush has the thickest knot of any model in the Vie-Long range (offered by Fendrihan) and is therefore quite full & 'bushy'. It generates a rich lather & holds it long enough for a second lathering-up after a first pass with the razor. It generates & holds lather much better than any of the half dozen boars' hair brushes I've used (Omega & Semogue) but not as well as a badger brush. It is also much softer than the boars' hair brushes but not as soft as a good badger brush. It does smell like a wet dog (a wet horse I guess) the first few times you use it but this odour disappears completely after about a week of daily use. (I recall some badger brushes that I've had in the past that smelled when they were new, especially the cheaper ones.) In general I would recommend this brush to anyone who doesn't want to blow $70-$150 on a good badger brush. Ideal for anyone new to wet shaving or on a tight budget. Note: I use this brush with Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap, Tabac Shaving Soap & l'Occitane Shaving Soap
