The Colonel Conk Styptic Pencil is ideal for anyone who suffers from nicks and minor cuts associated with shaving. To use, simply dampen the nib of the pencil with water and apply sparingly to the desired area to stem any bleeding. The pencil needs to be cleaned thoroughly after each use. The styptic pencil is also a great treatment for insect bites.
After meeting and marrying a barber in New Mexico, Col. Ichabod Conk started packaging and selling a line of shaving essentials. After he died in 1898, the company ceased. However, thanks to new ownership, the company is still a name to trust in the wet-shave industry.

I kept the pencil dry after using and stored it with the base upwards, so any remaining moisture would drip down. The pencil still broke off the knob at the base. It's also not rounded as in the picture and quite a bit smaller than expected. I'm going to shop around for other types before buying this one again. However, the quality of the styptic itself is very good. Stops bleeding immediately with no extra rubbing or applications necessary.
