I have been using Trumper's Limes soap for over 20 years and although I sometimes try others I keep coming back to it. Other reviews refer to thin, quick-drying lather. I think this is a matter of technique. Squeeze excess water out of your brush before working up a lather. Keep swirling until the lather reaches desired thickness, e.g. well-beaten whipping cream. This soap is harder than some, so it might take a while. If it dries, re-lather (it's allowed). BTW, a puck lasts me about 4 months.
The bowl it came in was very nice; highly anticipated shaving with it. Sadly, no shave ever came, since I couldn't for the love of god get a nice lather. The only thing that came from it was a very very thin bubbly lather, that dried out into nothingness. Would not recommend.
This was my first GFT soap. After having used DR Harris and some other premium soaps in a similar price range, I have to confess I did have high expectations of GFT (or at least on par with other brands in the price range). Unfortunately, I have to say that I am disappointed. There is no question the soap smells great, but for whatever reason I can not get the rich, creamy and luxurious lather out of it that I expected. Instead I get a fragile lather that goes flat and disappears very quickly. Maybe I am doing something wrong as the posts below do not seem to have this problem, but I have tried several variations with the technique all with the same result. While it does give an OK shave despite the lather issues, for the price I expected more than just 'OK'. Accordingly I have concluded for now that GFT soaps are just not for me. This is unfortunate because they have some great scents that I would love to use. IMHO, there are much better performing soaps at this price point.
