Started shaving in The military, in 1953, as it was mandatory to shave every morning. The only razors sold in the PX, were double edge safety razors, this is what was used In those days, there was no other kind. So I have a few years practice. Never a problem with a cut using my Joris, own a Joris palladium with a lacquered handle for many years. The gold plated is on order, due to arrive next week. I shave every day with my Joris, it is the best in my opinion. All my other razors were given away, or stored away. The Joris is the only one I use, and enjoy.
I inherited a 'very old razor' which I thought was quite aggressive at the time. After learning that preparation is an extremely important part of the ritual, I soon got used to a more traditional shave and embraced it. The desire for something more elegant I found in this gold plated hand crafted shaver. Although beautiful in design, it can be unforgiving if you are not careful. Take your time to prep before applying the blade, and use good quality soaps. I for one, am never apologetic about acquiring the best. This company has been making razors for a long time, and it shows. Besides one will save so much money in the long term from not purchasing cheap disposable razors. I can't stand electric shavers either. This is the Bentley of razors. I give it four, not for lack of quality or balance, but it could be a little less aggressive. Of course that would make it a little less exclusive as more would want to own it... kind of a double edged sword isn't it?
