Last year I gave this razor a 5-star review, because it enabled me to shave with fewer nicks and cuts than the Alabastron razor I initially purchased from Fendrihan (my first DE razor). However, I soon discovered some issues. The knob at the end of the handle that controls the butterfly opening would often loosen during shaving and I'd have to tighten it back so as not to injure myself. Additionally, while I had far fewer incidents with cutting myself, the shave was not as close and required more passes. I found myself replacing blades more often than I had to with the Alabastron. Also, while the textured handle provided a fair grip, there was still some issue with slipping when wet. I dropped my Parker 82R a couple of months ago when the butterfly was open and it knocked the mechanism seriously out of whack. Looking for a replacement, I noticed O.ABUGAUCH's comment in his review below of the Parker 82R recommending the Weishi as a better razor. I ended up buying a long-handled version of the Weishi 'classic' chrome butterfly. I'm a little disconcerted by its lighter weight, and it doesn't look as well-built as the Parker, but my gosh it shaves well! The gapping allows for a better shave than the Parker 82R, and the handle has a much better texture for an assured grip. Shaving now with grapeseed oil using the Weishi handle and Feather blades, I get the closest, smoothest results with no irritation. Nicks and cuts are very rare and, when they do occur, are small.
I love the sharpness of Feather blades but was routinely slicing myself using them with the Alabastron razor I purchased when I first switched to safety razors. The Parker 82R razor head allows the sharpness of the Feather blade to give me the close shave I love while protecting me from nicks and cuts. This razor has good weight and balance. The shape and texture of the handle give me better control even when wet. Love the ease of cleaning or changing the blade with the butterfly mechanism! Strongly recommend!
A worthy clone of the classic Gillette Superspeed razors. The knob at the bottom twists like the classic Superspeeds unlike some of the other Parker razors that twist in the middle. The razor is a bit more aggressive than an EJ8x series razor and is equivalent to about a 4 or 5 setting on a Gillette Slim or Fatboy. It does, however, have a very large blade angle sweet spot and is very forgiving. This makes it probably my top recommended beginners DE razor now. The TTO mechanism works great, blade alignment exactly as it should be and the plating is uniform and immaculate. The quality control issues Parker seems to have had in the past are obviously resolved.
This saftey razor is a not bad razor I get a fairly smooth shave out of it, although you would save yourself a lot of money if you purchased the weishi gunnmetal finish razor that razor is supprisingly a better razor then the parker 82R.
My dad passed down his old Gillette razor from the 70's and I have been using it for years. But it was starting to show its age and thought I it would be a good time to upgrade. After just one shave I can safely say that the Gillette is going into storage to be passed down to my son. The Parker has perfect length and weight. It feels very natural sitting in my hand, having only to make a small adjustment to my shaving style. The TTO design works well and the look of the razor is sharp.
